History
The site of Ecola Creek Lodge has boasted hotels by many names since 1892, when Herbert Logan built his 16-room Logan House. This location marked the end of the long and dangerous Portland-to-Seaside toll road. Logan operated the hotel until his passing in 1906. The hotel traded ownership several times over the next few years until it tragically burnt to the ground in 1913.
By that time, the hotel's name had changed to the Elk Creek Hotel. Elk Creek was the original name of Ecola Creek that runs by the Lodge.
In 1946, Perra Wilkins built a new lodge over the location of the previous Elk Creek Hotel. It was named Bell Harbor after her interest in and collection of bells. During the 1964 tsunami, the hotel experienced major damage to at least a dozen units but was rebuilt. Today, Bell Harbor is known as Ecola Creek Lodge.
